March holidays

And so I'm back after my long hiatus!

And in case I didn't mention, which I think I didn't, I'm in Meridian Junior College, Science Stream now. Currently taking Physics (H2), Chemistry (H2), Maths (H2), Econs (H1).

There's like so much that I wanna post about, so be prepared, as this will be a long post I reckon.

First of all, getting into MJC wasn't a big surprise to me. I had more or less expected it (not trying to show off alright). On the first reporting day, we were allocated into our Admin Groups. It's just basically grouping students based on their names alphabetically. Till this day, I'm really not sure why they had to do that, probably to make us feel more 'belonged' upon stepping into MJC. So my AG was A6. Atlas House. Got to know a few people, here and there, but didn't really interact much with them. Fyi, till this day, my AG remains bonded and active, and we even have a Facebook group. But being the 'not-so-enthu' me, I don't really know many people there and I don't take part in their activities/events organised, because I feel somewhat out of place there as most of the people there seem to have very different personalities from me. Alright, moving on..

On the 2nd day of reporting, we played wet games (if i'm not wrong), and on the 3rd day of reporting, we played more games (?). Okay I'm so sorry for my bad memory.. I really can't recall. But please be aware that we also sat in for many talks and speeches by the important personnel of the schools, things about subject combi, school rules, school song, mass dance, stuff like that. On Friday was a holiday (for some weird reason I can't remb. I think it was to give time for us to be allocated into our classes).

If you think that what we did in the first week was orientation, then you're wrong. Orientation (REVOLUT10N 2012) officially started on the 2nd week. We were allocated into our classes to bond, play games, etc. I got into Triton, although I was kinda hoping for Atlas. Kinda liked the Atlas OGLs more.. Haha. On Tuesday, we went to Sentosa for Amazing Race.. Well, wasn't really that fun as I'd expected, but not bad already lah. And then Wednesday was the Finale Night, where we had to put up a performance about some Robinax Honte guy. Stayed in school until about 8+.. And finally, on Thursday, we started our lectures and tutorials, dressed up in our proper school attire, with a temporary awesome school timetable that ends around 2pm everyday. Our permanent timetable kicked in on the following Thursday, where the real hectic JC life began..

About Subj Combi

So as read from the blog of a graduate of MJC, we are supposed to choose our subject combination on the first day of school. So it didn't come as a surprise for me either. I was contemplating between Physics or Biology. A few of us even went back to PRSS to consult our secondary school teachers about it. After a really, and I mean it, like REALLY, long consideration, I chose Bio, Chem, Maths, Econs (H1). I knew that I didn't have an exceptionally good memory, and also aware that what we learn in 'O' Level Bio is just 40% of 'A' Level Bio, but I really like Bio (notice that I didn't use the past tense), I decided to pursue my interest. It was a really big risk I was taking. I was doing it 'against all odds' as many people would think that we can't make such a big decision based on our interests. But I just decided to go with it, and see where I'll end up in. Just a little bit more to this, I actually placed CME/B as my first choice during my first submission, and then changed it to BCM/E as my first choice during my second submission.

However, if you think I really got into the BCM/E class, then you're wrong.. Even though I had submitted my choices, I was still thinking hard about getting into Bio or Phy. This was my evaluation:

- I did better for O Level Phy than Bio.

- Phy opens up slightly more variety of choices than Bio.

- Can my interest for Bio last long enough until A Levels? Duno :/

- Do I have the necessary guidance in Bio or Phy? Bio- cousins took A Level Bio / siblings who are taking subjects similar to Bio in Poly; Phy- both parents studied Phy, Dad who helped me during O Level Phy

- After looking at the Phy syllab and Bio syllab, something which I neglected when I chose my subj combi (I only remb about it over the weekend), Phy covered many topics which were covered before in Sec school, while Bio covered the basic topics (e.g. cells) in Sec school, but the rest were new stuff.

Therefore, after another long discussion with my parents, I decided to make the switch to PCM/E. I got scolded by Mrs Lim (teacher in the timetable committee), who interrogated me about the sudden decision, having to trouble her and things like that. I shall not talk about how I managed to convince her (only those who're close to me would know) to allow me to make the switch, i.e. getting the form to even try to apply for switching. And it wasn't even confirmed that I would get what I appealed for. I had successfully made the switch after mustering the courage to call her up on the evening of the day I appealed. I also learnt, on that very day, that the words 'just' and 'forgot' cannot be misused..

I actually got into the same Bio class as Jun Yi. Nearly became classmates for the next 2 years. Haha.

As I had made the switch on the day that Orientation officially started, I didn't get to experience orientation with my own class. I was having orientation with my bio class, i.e. 12S303 or Triton 6. They are a really fun and great bunch of people, but sadly we can't be in the same class.. :( I actually attended 303's class bbq recently. Really glad that they invited me! :) Honestly, I prefer these people in 303 than my current form class 12S209 (Triton 5), but oh well, that's life eh.. You can't always get what you want, isn't it?

Anyway as I was saying, I had orientation with 303, so I didn't know anyone in 209, so you can actually imagine how awkward I was on the first day with 209.. Everybody was looking at me like, "Who's that girl? How come I've never seen her before?" or "Is she the new girl I've heard?" Oh well, anyway, it turned out that the people there were quite alright, and some were pretty friendly. But generally, up till now, I think that 209 is not quite bonded. Fyi, there are 7 girls and 16 guys in the class. The girls are basically 1 clique, and the guys are separated into 2 to 3 cliques on their own - the playful ones vs. the studious ones vs. (if there's even a 3rd clique, i'm not quite sure). Yeah. And some of the guys didn't even know the girls' names until one relief teacher came up with a 'Speed Dating' game in class.. Really wth right. Seems like Orientation failed to bond them or smthg.

Ahh, well, anyway it's the March Holidays now. 1 week. Too short. Too much homework & projects. :( Sad life.

-scrolls up and down to check if post is long enough to end. lol. haha.-

Oh yeah. And I got into Photog as my CCA. Bought a Nikon D5100. :D

Errhh. So this is my current life.. Updated. ;)

Guess I won't be blogging soon.. Will try my best though!

BYE! :D
