Ripped this from someone's Facebook post.
While selecting university courses, I got asked this question repeatedly: What is your dream? Another alternative would be this statement: Do/depends on what you're interested in.
As I was struggling so damn hard trying to choose a university course for the past few weeks, I came to realize it stemmed from a really simple fact - that I have no dream or clue what my life ahead is going to look like. I do not have a dream because I am afraid, and I think that simply sums up all the anger and frustration that I encountered.
Now, the question is, why?
Well, I guess because we often fail too much, in terms of our grades, people's expectations of us i.e. teachers, parents, friends, and so on. We feel discouraged and thus we become afraid of setting goals or even dream of getting anywhere. We go by the motto of doing what's good enough (like passable grades etc) and doing mainstream things/subjects/courses. At the end of the day, we still find ourselves lost when it comes to choosing a career path. Okay, maybe I'm generalizing things here - probably this only applies to me, I don't really know.
This post isn't meant for anyone to find their way towards discovering what their dream is. To be really honest, I still haven't got much better in doing so myself. But I can briefly recall that when I was younger, I wanted to be a teacher. And probably that's why I did the Teaching Internship with MOE, to reignite what was a "childhood dream", and I guess I liked what teaching was about, despite its challenges and everything else (come on, there's always a challenging part to everything). So I guess that's one (possibly the only) part that I got clearer about.. haha.
Alright, so anyway best of luck to everyone's university applications! :)
